PIT-38 from eToro: five sheets and a leverage column that changes the classification
The eToro statement is a workbook of five sheets, not one table. The figures a return needs live in two of them. Below is exactly what our engine reads.
Where to get the file
- Open Settings → Account Statement.
- Set the range to the whole tax year and download the XLSX.
- Do not split the sheets — at minimum Closed Positions and Dividends are needed.
What is inside
- Five sheets, two that matter
- Account Summary, Closed Positions, Account Activity, Dividends, Financial Summary. For tax, Closed Positions and Dividends are the ones that count.
- Sheet names depend on the language
- The same file names its sheets in Polish or English depending on the account setting — both have to be recognised.
- A row is a closed position
- Open and close sit in one row, not as two separate trades.
- Dates as serial numbers
- As in any Excel — a day count, not date text.
- A leverage column
- A value above one means the position was leveraged.
Where it goes wrong
- Leverage decides the instrument type
- A position with leverage above one is a contract for difference, not a share — even though the ticker column reads the same. It is computed differently.
- Filing from one sheet
- Taking only Closed Positions loses dividends and withholding tax. Section G comes out empty and the tax paid abroad is forfeited.
- The financial summary looks like a return
- It is a summary for the eye, without individual trades. It serves neither FIFO nor the right-day rate.
- Copying into Excel’s 1900 bug
- Moving dates between sheets by hand easily shifts everything by a day, and that changes the NBP rate.
What we compute from it
- Shares and ETFs — section C/D
- FIFO per account, art. 30b ust. 7.
- Dividends — section G
- With withholding credited, art. 30a ust. 9.
- Conversion to złoty
- NBP rate from the day before income is realised, art. 11a ust. 1.

claude mcp add --transport http taxroam https://taxroam.com/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer $TAXROAM_KEY"Where this export usually goes wrong
- US dividends
- No W-8BEN, so 30 percent instead of 15
- The NBP rate
- The trade-date rate
- FIFO per account
- One shared pile across all accounts
Questions about eToro
I hold leveraged positions. Will you compute them?
Contract v1 accepts shares, ETFs, bonds and crypto. Leveraged positions are reported as not accepted rather than computed as if they were shares.
Should I send every sheet?
Send the whole file. Extra sheets are discarded; missing ones cannot be invented.
